Hanga's Story
Beside my studies and job I have always been interested in photography and have been doing it for a number of years. I was searching for possibilities to gain more knowledge in this field in Hungary or outside my country but usually art schools and photography courses are expensive. Last year I read a short note in an on-line journal that through the Sirius Programme it is possible for youngsters living in Middle- or Eastern-Europe to study in Denmark. I applied for this scholarship and now I am spending my third months in Vraa Hojskole studying photography as my main subject and also trying my hand at other creative arts, such as jewelery, textil, pottery and music.
The school has a well equiped studio and darkroom, where our master, Emil Schildt teaches us numerous different printing techniques and many secrets about photography as an art.
My main interrest was in photography when I chose to apply to the Sirius Scholarship but here in Vraa Hojskole I have found much more than only professional technical knowledge. I found a caring and loving community. I found people from different countries, people with different interests, different ages and background who are open to each other, who are interested in eachother‘s cultures, curious about different traditions and are open to creative new ideas.
The school is very well equiped to host almost all kind of arts and to give the sudents an opportunity to try whatever they want. And it is not only the technical equipments but also the open and helpful attitude of our headmistress and all the staff that makes it possible to all of us to fulfill our gains and dreams.
I have been learning a lot here at Vraa Hojskole not only about photography, but about creativity, humanity, sharing and understanding and generally about life. I believe it would do good to everybody to spend some time in such an environment, than I am sure the world would be different.
